I am with the career that I always wanted to be since I was in university- an internal auditor.
I like the dynamic, the very broad exposure and of course getting to know all the high positions management which can make you feel like a school kid teaching back your teacher.
Stress level is definitely unavoidable because first, you have to identify control weakness, pin point the root cause and recommend better solution.
As a consultant, you need to be very well versed with knowledge, experience, strong communication skills and be very CONFIDENT. You need to provide quality service, make a complex process to an easily understood summary and make people literally....awe....on your presentation...
This is certainly worthwhile for what I am investing right now. Is really tough because you actually spend average 10 hours a day for 7 days a week. But you know everything will be worth the effort when you know your destination is getting nearer to you...
Work hard, have courage, be kind, be grateful and be inspirational.
Good luck!
